SetAsideTracker stores everything you enter — your earnings, tax profile, and settings — only on your own device. We don't have a server or user accounts, and your financial data is never transmitted anywhere. To keep the app reliable and understand which features are used, we do collect anonymous crash reports and basic usage analytics — this never includes the contents of your entries, your earnings, your name, or your email. The details are below.
What information the app collects
- Profile info (name, email): entered during onboarding, used only to personalize the app's greeting. Never transmitted — stored locally on your device only.
- Tax profile (filing status, dependents, state/county, income details you choose to enter): used entirely on-device to calculate your estimated tax set-aside. Never transmitted.
- Earnings entries (platform, date, pay, tips, mileage, expenses, hours worked): the core data you log. Stored locally on-device only.
- App settings (app lock on/off, light/dark mode preference): stored locally on-device only.
None of the above — your profile, tax details, or earnings entries — is ever sent to us or to any third party. It stays on your device, and the app's tax calculations run entirely on-device, whether or not you have an internet connection. The one exception is the anonymous crash-report and usage-analytics data described below, which never includes any of the information listed above.
How your data is protected
All data is encrypted at rest on your device using a randomly generated key stored in your device's secure hardware-backed storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).
Optional app lock uses your device's own Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or passcode. The app never receives or stores your biometric data — your device's operating system handles authentication and only tells the app "yes" or "no."
Data you explicitly choose to export
The app has an optional "Export Data (CSV)" and "Create Backup File" feature in Settings. These let you generate a file containing your data and save or share it wherever you choose (e.g. your device's Files app, a cloud drive, AirDrop, email). We have no visibility into or control over what happens to that file once you've exported it — that's between you and wherever you choose to send it.
Crash reporting and analytics
To keep the app stable and understand which features are useful, we collect two kinds of anonymous, non-identifying data through trusted third-party providers:
- Crash and error reports (via Sentry): when the app crashes or hits an error, we receive a diagnostic report — a stack trace plus your device model, operating system version, and app version — so we can find and fix the problem. These reports do not contain the contents of your entries, your earnings, your name, or your email.
- Usage analytics (via PostHog): we record which features are used — for example, that an entry was logged, that the paywall was viewed, or that a subscription was purchased — along with a small amount of non-identifying context (your state code, the earning platform's name, and which plan you chose) and a randomly generated, anonymous app identifier. We never send the amounts you enter, your tax figures, your name, or your email.
This data is anonymous — it is not linked to your name, email, or account (the app has no accounts) — and is used only to keep the app working and improve it. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it. If we ever change what's collected, we'll update this policy and the app's data-collection disclosures with Apple accordingly.
Third parties
We never sell your data, and we never share your personal or financial data with anyone — it stays on your device. The only data that leaves your device is the anonymous crash-report and usage-analytics data described above, which is processed on our behalf by two service providers: Sentry (crash reporting) and PostHog (analytics). They process that anonymous data only to provide those services to us. The app does not include any third-party advertising SDKs and does not track you across other apps or websites.
Children's privacy
SetAsideTracker is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your choices
- You can edit or delete any entry, your profile, or your tax profile at any time within the app.
- "Clear All Data" in Settings permanently deletes everything stored on your device.
- Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data (subject to your device's own backup behavior — see below).
Device backups
Because your data lives in your device's standard app-storage area, it may be included in your device's own backup system (e.g. iCloud Backup, Android's auto-backup) the same way any other app's data would be, depending on your device settings. We have no visibility into or control over those backups — that's between you and Apple/Google.
Changes to this policy
If how we handle data changes — for example, if we add a real account system, cloud sync, or activate analytics/crash reporting — we'll update this policy and notify you within the app before the change takes effect.
